DS Techeetah president Edmund Chu has praised Jean-Eric Vergne’s Swiss E-Prix victory as “amazing”, describing his points gap heading into the season finale as “a little bit of a nice cushion”.
Chu detailed Vergne’s “clever” approach to Saturday’s race, which saw him take a crucial pole position and a third win of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship season.
“It was quite stressful during the whole race for us with the start crash, we didn’t know what was going to happen after that but I think it worked well for us,” Chu told e-racing365.
“We were also anticipating rain for the race, that was what was given to us.
“You know the skies were quite clear and we thought that we could get out of the race without any rain impeding us but it came and it made things super tense.
“I think that what JEV did in terms of qualification and getting into Super Pole was an amazing result. He has earned his current position at the top.
“Getting Super Pole set us up really well going into the race, I mean this is a hard track for any driver to pass.
“Jaguar tried their best to pass us but JEV is a very clever driver and was able to just keep his cool and stay in the lead.”
Vergne is now considered the odds-on favorite to win back-to-back Formula E titles but Chu would not be drawn on whether this will alter the team’s strategy for the New York City double-header next month.
“Well we will have to talk about [New York] early next week,” said Chu.
“You know this was a very strong win. I think it gave us a little bit of a nice cushion but again Formula E is Formula E and you never know what the outcome is.
“As a team we don’t try to overthink things, we don’t underthink things either. We just try to look at what we need to do for each singular race and go from there.”
