NIO driver Oliver Turvey thinks that there could be more possibilities of overtaking opportunities at Monaco than there was at last month’s Paris E-Prix.
Turvey will be making his second appearance on the Monaco E-Prix track but has also tasted success in the principality after taking a win there in the 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 Series.
E-racing365 revealed last week that the Monaco Attack Zone placement would be between the harborside hairpin and the Tabac left-hand corner.
“We won’t lose as much time where they have placed it [just before Tabac] and the extra power will be useful into the first corner [Saint Devote] and down to the hairpin,” Turvey told e-racing365.
“I don’t think there will be a big time loss which obviously means you can use it as a real Attack Mode which should be good.”
Turvey believes that qualifying will again be a crucial aspect of ensuring a strong result on the sinuous track which is the shortest on the Formula E calendar.
“Qualifying will again be mega important and at Monaco it is so hard to get by other cars,” he said.
“I think in the race there will actually be more chances to overtake than there were in Paris. There are a few opportunities and I think the attack mode will make a bigger difference.”
Turvey has scored all of NIO’s six points gained this season with 8th and 9th places finishes in Santiago and Hong Kong respectively.
He now thinks that NIO’s best cumulative qualifying performance of the season in Paris last time has given the team much needed hope for the final races of the season.
“We are making steps forward even though it’s difficult because we are so limited on track time. In Paris we were better in qualifying and I think we can take some heart from it as we arrive in Monaco,” he explained.
“We have to just take every opportunity will I was able to at Santiago and Hong Kong. It hasn’t been easy to get points this year but more opportunities will come I’m sure of it.”
