Audi’s Gen 1 Formula E car was one of a number of impressive race cars that took part in the revived GP Ice Race in Austria this weekend.
Daniel Abt completed runs in one of the Audi e-tron FE04s which he and Lucas di Grassi drove last season in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
The GP Ice Race, held in Zell am See in the Austrian Alps, was organized by Vinzenz Greger and Ferdinand Porsche, both co-founders of Greger Porsche Classic Cars in Vienna.
A variety of race and road cars took to the all-ice track in addition to the Audi Formula E contender, including an Audi RS5 DTM driven by Rene Rast and a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 rally car piloted by Romain Dumas.
“This was a super-nice weekend with a fantastic atmosphere and fantastic people,” said Daniel Abt. “It was the first time for me to drive a Formula E car on ice. A cool feeling!
“It was incredibly good fun – also seeing the fans when you set yourself up for the corners and then drift through them. I hope that I’ll have the opportunity to take part in the event again next year.”
Part of the event saw the sport of skijoring whereby a skier is pulled along by a car, with freestyle skier Benedikt Mayr towed by Abt’s e-tron FE04.
